BEFORE AND AFTERCARE FOR COSMETIC TATTOO

PRE-TATTOOING - Pre-Procedure

(These are recommendations only, please seek medical advice for any medical concerns)

DO eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure.

NO caffeine or alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Caffeine or alcohol can thin the blood, which can cause the skin to be hypersensitive and bleed easily.

NO blood thinning medications for 72 hours before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. As it thins your blood which can tend to push out the pigment. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.

MAKE sure your face is not sunburnt.

DO NOT get brows waxed, henna, tinted or laminated for 1 week prior to your appointment. You can pluck strays in the 1 week lead up to your appointment.

IF considering Botox, it is best to have your brow tattooing done first. If having Botox before your treatment, please do this at least 3-4 weeks before your appointment.

IF you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Or at least the same amount of time off the medication as you were on
the medication.

NO Retinols/Retin-A, Vitamin A, any anti-aging, acne creams or serums containing acids should be used a month prior to the procedure.

NO chemical peels 60 days before the procedure.

DO wash your hair that morning or night before because you can get your healing tattoo wet for 7 days. You will need to avoid washing your hair too soon. Invest in dry shampoo – it will become your best friend.

DO NOT wear makeup to your appointment, as it will be removed at the site of the treatment.

COSMETIC TATTOO AFTERCARE

Proper care following your procedure is necessary to achieve the best results.

DO NOT wet your treated area for the first 7 days. The treated area must be kept clean and dry (apart from the ointment) no make-up, cleansing creams or chemicals should be applied to the area for 7 days.
DO NOT touch the treated area or expose it to unsanitary condition ESPECIALLY in the first 48 hours.

Immediately after the procedure you may experience some redness and pain in the treated area. A clean cold compress may be applied to reduce swelling and paracetamol may be taken for any severe pain.

IF ANY PUS OR SWOLLEN RED LUMPS APPEAR CONTACT YOUR GP IMMEDIATELY FOR A CHECK UP and to advise you of the next steps to take. If pain in the treated area does not subside within 4-5 days or worsens over healing time, once again, contact your GP. While rare, some people
can have allergies to pigment or develop an infection.

DO apply your ointment sparingly to the area (less is more) at least twice a day. Over use can fade your tattoo more than desired. This is included with your first appointment, if you run out you can purchase more at your touch up appointment.

SOME ITCHING IS NORMAL, DO NOT PICK, PEEL OR SCRATCH THE AFFECTED AREA.

Your cosmetic tattoo will be bolder and darker than it will be when healed, prepare yourself as it can be intimidating for the first 3-4 days.

PATCHINESS, EXCESSIVE FADING, ITCHING, DARKENING & REDNESS of the brow area is VERY NORMAL in healing time. DO NOT PANIC.

AFTER ABOUT 7 DAYS, YOUR COSMETIC TATTOO MAY OR MAY NOT PEEL BUT IT WILL FADE. SOMETIMES 20% OTHER TIMES 90%. WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER SKIN TYPE & CONDITION & WE CANNOT ADVISE BY LOOKING AT YOU HOW MUCH YOUR TATTOO WILL FADE.

This is why it is important to book your touch up session with us 4-6 weeks after your first session.

After 7 days, you can wash your tattooed area with water only. All of the colour will fall off in some cases, expect it to return about 3 weeks after your initial procedure and feel free to apply makeup pencil at this time if you feel you want to DO NOT apply Retinol, bleaching cream, AHA’s, Glycolic or exfoliants of any kind to the treated area ever. They will lighten and or change the colour of the treated area. This will affect the longevity of your tattooing.

NO chemical peels on the tattooed area as this will fade the tattoo prematurely.

DO NOT expose yourself to the sun as this can fade your cosmetic tattoo, after your initial 1 week has passed, you will need to apply sunscreen to your treated area.
